A passport is easy to forget about

It only matters twice a year at most, which is exactly why it slips your mind.

The six-month rule catches people out

Many countries will not let you in if your passport has less than six months left, even if it is technically still valid. A trip can be refused at check-in because of this.

Renewals can take weeks

HM Passport Office states standard applications can take up to three weeks, longer at busy times of year. Finding out a fortnight before you fly is too late.

It is easy to lose track

A passport sits in a drawer for years between trips. Unlike a bill or a subscription, nothing reminds you it exists until you need it.

How it works

1

Upload your passport

Take a photo of the photo page or upload a scan. Orlo reads the holder name, document number, and expiry date automatically.

2

Accept the reminders

Orlo suggests reminders at 6 weeks, 2 weeks, and 3 days before expiry. Accept the ones you want.

3

Renew with time to spare

Get notified by email and push well before any trip could be affected, not after you have already booked the flights.

Three reminders, timed to be useful

Enough warning to renew calmly, not enough to forget about it again in between.

Before

6 weeks

Start the renewal

Comfortably ahead of HM Passport Office's standard turnaround, so there is no rush.

Before

2 weeks

Check it has arrived

If you have not started yet, do it now. Renewal is done online and takes a few minutes.

Before

3 days

Final reminder

Your passport expires in 3 days. If you have any travel plans, this is the moment to check them against the new dates.

One place for every travel document

Visas, boarding passes, and travel insurance all fit alongside your passport, so everything for an upcoming trip is in one place rather than spread across emails and photo albums.

Orlo covers 18 document types in total, from car insurance to driving licences, each with reminder timing suited to how that document actually works.

Frequently asked questions

How long before expiry should I renew my passport?
HM Passport Office recommends starting a renewal at least three weeks before you need it for standard applications, and checking well before that if you are planning to travel. Many travellers renew six months or more before expiry once they account for the six-month validity rule that a lot of countries apply on entry.
Why does Orlo remind me 6 weeks before, not 6 months?
Orlo's passport reminders follow the same renewal and expiry schedule as insurance, memberships, and other yearly renewals: 6 weeks, 2 weeks, and 3 days before the date on the document. If you want an earlier heads-up because of the six-month entry rule, you can always add your own custom reminder on top of the suggested ones.
Can Orlo store my passport securely?
Yes. Documents are kept in private, encrypted storage tied to your account. Nobody else can see them unless you generate a share link yourself, which you control and can revoke at any time.
Does Orlo track other travel documents too?
Yes. Visas, boarding passes, and travel insurance are all supported travel document types, each read and filed the same way as your passport.
What if I renew before Orlo reminds me?
Just upload the new passport once you have it. Orlo treats it as a fresh document and sets new reminders based on the new expiry date.
Is it free?
Yes. The free plan includes 5 uploads a month, which comfortably covers a passport alongside your other travel documents. Basic is £2.99 a month for 50 uploads with all features unlocked.
