A ten-year gap is a long time to remember anything

A photocard licence lasts 10 years

It is one of the longest renewal cycles of any document you own, which makes it exactly the kind of date that gets forgotten between renewals.

Driving on an expired licence is an offence

You can be fined for driving without a valid licence, on top of the inconvenience of realising at the wrong moment.

The photo often needs updating too

Renewal usually means submitting a new photo, which takes a little more thought than a simple online form if you leave it until the last minute.

How it works

1

Upload your driving licence

Orlo reads the licence number, holder name, and expiry date from a photo or scan.

2

Accept the reminders

Reminders are suggested at 6 weeks, 2 weeks, and 3 days before your licence expires.

3

Renew online before it lapses

DVLA licence renewal is done online in most cases, but it still needs a valid photo and a few minutes, best done before the deadline rather than on it.

Plenty of notice

Time to get a new photo sorted before you need it.

Before

Renew online

Final reminder

Your licence expires in 3 days. Renew now if you have not already.

Everything else for the car too

MOT, road tax, and insurance all run on their own schedules. Orlo tracks them all in the same place, so nothing about the car is left to memory.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a UK driving licence last?
A standard photocard licence is valid for 10 years, though the expiry date for the photo and the licence itself can sometimes differ from your original test pass date. The exact date is printed on the licence itself, which is what Orlo reads.
Does this cover provisional licences too?
Yes. Provisional and full licences are read and tracked the same way, based on whatever expiry date is printed on the document you upload.
What about renewing at 70?
Licences need renewing every 3 years from age 70. If you upload your licence, Orlo tracks whatever expiry date is shown on it, including a shorter renewal cycle.
Can Orlo also track my car's other documents?
Yes. MOT, road tax, and insurance are all supported the same way, so everything for one vehicle and its driver sits together.
Does this work for licences from outside the UK?
Orlo reads whatever expiry date is printed on the document, so as long as the date is legible, it works for licences from other countries too.
Is it free?
Yes. The free plan includes 5 uploads a month. Basic is £2.99 a month for 50 uploads with every feature unlocked.
