How Renewal Price Tracking Works

When you confirm a document, Orlo checks whether you already have a document from the same provider and of the same type. If it finds one, it links the two together in a "group" and starts tracking the amount over time — so when you upload this year's car insurance, last year's is already there for comparison.

Which document types this applies to

Insurance, subscriptions, utility bills, memberships, contracts, invoices, tax bills, vehicle documents, receipts, compliance certificates, and pet insurance/records. Each of these tends to recur with the same provider on a predictable cycle, which is what makes price comparison useful. One-off documents like bookings or events aren't grouped.

How Orlo decides two documents are "the same"

It matches on the provider name extracted from the document (normalised so "British Gas" and "british gas ltd" count as the same) plus the document type. If the provider name isn't recognisable — for example the AI couldn't read it clearly — the document won't be grouped, but everything else about it still works normally.

When you'll see a price change

A price change only appears once a group has at least two documents with an amount on them. Orlo compares the two most recent amounts and shows the difference as both a number and a percentage, on the document page and on your household dashboard.

If Orlo gets it wrong

You can always edit the extracted provider name and document type on the review screen before confirming — this is what Orlo uses for grouping, so correcting it there fixes the match. There's currently no manual "merge these two documents" option; if two documents should be linked but weren't (usually because of a provider name mismatch), re-confirming the more recent one with a corrected provider name will link it going forward.
